Vehicle riders in tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet will soon be under surveillance! ‘They will be in trouble if they commit any violation of traffic rules,’ as an intelligent traffic management system for the detection of violators and enforcement of traffic rules is coming up here.
The urban police and the Warangal Municipal Corporation have come together in this connection. The police have planned to fix closed-circuit television cameras at all the crucial traffic junctions in the tri-cities.
27 such junctions are now identified for installing the CC-TV cameras. A state-of-the-art surveillance and control room is being readied at Hanamkonda police station to monitor the input from the surveillance cameras round the clock.
At these junctions four fixed-angle cameras will be installed and one camera with 360 degrees gyration will be fixed to keep a watch on the traffic and to locate the erring vehicle riders, informed the urban superintendent of police S Syamsunder.
All the cameras being employed are of high definition capacity and can cover a distance of 1.2 kilometres zooming in on the erring driver’s vehicle and its number plate.
The data captured by the cameras will be sent to the control room with the help of optical fibre cable, he explained. The control room will have two teams, one executive team and another e-challan team.
The e-challans will be sent to the residence of the vehicle owner and he needs to pay the penalty at e-seva centres. He will be given two notices to pay the fine, in case he fails to pay even then, a warrant will be issued against the erring driver.
Syamsunder further said that traffic booths at 20 locations will also be set up in the city and the traffic personnel at the booths will act in coordination with the CCTV-control room.
“The initiative will help to control the crimes like chain snatchings and eve teasing, besides traffic monitoring,” the SP said. It is planned to put the system in place by the end of next month.
Stanpower, the US firm is noted in the field of traffic management systems and surveillance systems, is providing the technological support to the Warangal police’s initiative.
Stanpower representative Timothy Prakash presented a demonstration to the SP Syamsunder and to Municipal Commissioner Vivek Yadav on Saturday about the technical features of the system.
