Warangal: Christians in the district were gearing up for Christmas Eve celebrations. The Churches across the district were decked up for the festival that falls on December 25. The churches were all lit up with colourful lighting for the event.
Grand celebrations were planned at Epiphany Cathedral at Dornakal in the district. The cathedral popularly called as CSI Church is the head quarters of Church of South India (CSI) Dornakal diocese.Bishop of the diocese Dr. Vadapalli Prasada Rao narrating the history of the Church told The Hans India that Dornakal Cathedral was the second biggest Church in Andhra Pradesh and stands after Medak CSI Church.
He informed that the Church has been a place of worship for lakhs of devotees for the past 73 years. The devotees of all the religions visit the place and the Church has become a centre of religious harmony, he added.
The construction traditions of Christian, Muslim and Hindu religions were employed in building the Church that was built in 1915, the Bishop said. The first Bishop of the diocese Azaraiah has developed the Church a lot and made it a centre of pilgrimage.
Bishop Prasada Rao informed that this Christmas large-scale celebrations were planned at the Church and the celebrations have already begun. In the similar manner, large-scale arrangements were being made at St. Fatima Cathedral, which recently celebrated its golden jubilee, of Fatima Nagar in Kazipet.
Pre-Christmas celebrations have begun at Centenary Baptist Church, situated at Lashkar Bazar in Hanamkonda, which was illuminated with colourful electric lighting marking the occasion. Meanwhile, mass Christmas celebrations were launched here on Saturday by popular evangelist M Anil Kumar who conducted special prayer meetings for three-days here on December 20, 21 and 22.
