YSR Congress Party is planning a low profile visit for election campaign of its honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma in Parkal Assembly constituency in Warangal district, which goes to by-elections along with 18 others on June 12.
As the memories of party president Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s bid to travel to Mahabubabad in a train two years ago to launch his ‘Odarpu yatra’ in Telangana led to violence is still fresh in the minds of locals, the party has decided to limit the campaign to road shows only.
With Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy in Chanchalguda jail, the onus of campaign fell on his mother Ms. Vijayamma and sister Sharmila. So far the, mother-daughter team has successfully covered eight constituencies.
The party’s campaign managers say that Ms. Vijayamma would hold road shows in Parkal, Atmakur, Geesukonda and Sangem mandals.
She would explain to the voters, how Konda couple – Muralidhar and Surekha – stood solidly behind late YSR and now Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy.
Party leaders said if situation demands, Ms. Vijayamma would reiterate party’s stand on separate Telangana by saying that YSRCP respects the sentiment of people of region and that it was the Centre that should take a decision on statehood issue.
YSRCP Central Governing Council member Bajireddi Goverdhan, who is in charge for Parkal constituency said: “Ms. Vijayamma is coming to Parkal for the first time and we hope there will not be any disturbance,” he said.
Ms. Vijayamma would cover Kandukur, Atmakur and Udayagiri segments in Nellore parliamentary constituency on Monday and proceed to Anantapur and Rayadurg on June 5.
They would also address road shows in Yemmiganur and Allagadda on June 6 and Rayachoti, Rajampet and Railway Kodur constituencies on June 7. Ms. Vijayamma would wind up her campaign by addressing meeting in Tirupati on June 10, the last day of campaign.
