Warangal: Vana Mahotsavam was celebrated in the district on Tuesday on a massive scale. Several government and non-governmental organizations (NGO) have taken up plantation and sapling distribution programmes with a motto to increase green cover in the district.
As part of which an NGO called Bala Vikasa Social Service Organisation has launched a plantation programme under the title ‘Haritha Vikasam’ on the day. It was planned to plant one lakh saplings across the district this year.
A programme in this connection was held at Vangapahad High School. Bala Vikasa executive director S Showry Reddy has distributed 1050 fruit yielding saplings to the villagers. Three Italian women namely Ilianora, Francisca and Juliana have attended the programme as guests and expressed pleasure over the forestation activities being carried out in the district. A similar programme was held by the National Service Scheme NSS of Kakatiya University.
The KU NSS coordinator Prof B Suresh Lal informed that NSS wing targeted to plant nearly one lakh plants this season. This was being done as part of `Go Green and Grow Green’ programme in association with the Forest Department, he said. District revenue officer Dr. P Seshadri took part in the programme.
About 300 NSS students represented Kakatiya Mahila Degree College, Pingle government Womens College, Arts College and LB College planting saplings. The volunteers in Khammam and Adilabad districts have also conducted similar programmes and planted saplings in their respective college premises. The Vanamahotsvam is a programme conducted in various districts across the state.
