The BJP has urged the Telangana political JAC to remain neutral in the ensuing by-election to Parkal Assembly constituency and exuded confidence that it will win the elections.
Addressing the media here on Saturday, BJP national secretary K. Lakshman said that the people of Parkal were not going to be fooled by rhetoric and would vote for the BJP as it was the only party that was clear on statehood for Telangana. He suggested that the Telangana political JAC stay out of electoral politics.
He said the party had decided to launch two-month long membership drive from June and complete the party elections by end of the year. Referring to the recently concluded party national executive meeting at Mumbai, Dr. Lakshman said the party decided to take steps to increase its vote share by at least 10 per cent and has drawn up a programme for the next three months. The party cadre have been asked to focus on the failure of the UPA government and mobilise public opinion in favour of the nation-wide bandh called by the NDA in protest against the recent increase in petrol prices.
Meanwhile, party spokesman N. V. S. S. Prabhakar said the yuva morcha would organise a cycle/ bullock cart rally on May 28. On May 29, the BJP Mahila Morcha would stage a protest and on May 30 the party and its affiliated organisations would participate in the nation-wide bandh.
