Azad’s wife lands in police net

Slain Maoist central committee leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad’s wife Koliparthy Padma alias Seetakka and six others were arrested at Khanapur village in Narsampet division in the early hours of Sunday.

They were produced before a special court here which remanded them to 14-day custody.

Padma is a member of Maoist party Nallamala division committee.

Sources said Padma, four members of a family, all of whom are hardcore Naxals, and two others were heading to the forests for a ‘contact’ with Chhattisgarh Maoist leaders along with courier Kiran in the late hours of Saturday when police nabbed them.

On specific information, special party teams confronted them at Khanapur forest area. When they tried to flee, the cops caught them and sent them to Narsampet police station.

A police official said they were identified by former Naxal Bharatakka alias Chandrakala on Sunday morning.

The police later produced them in the special court in Warangal. Magistrate Premavathi ordered them to be sent to 14 days remand.

Police recovered Rs 40,000 from the Maoists. Athmakur Ramanaiah, wife Annapoorna, son Sunil and daughter Bujjamma were among the arrested Maoists.

When Azad was shot dead in Adilabad forests in an encounter two years ago, his brothers, relatives and friends had expressed shock and had come out to pay tribute during his cremation but Padma was nowhere to be seen.
